About Christina

CH HeadshotOn any given day, Christina Abt is living the life of a mother,a nana, a media consultant, a community volunteer, a political activist, a free lance writer and/or a farm girl. Yet no matter the time or place, the one constant role in Christina’s life is that of a storyteller.

Christina began sharing stories as a child, often to the chagrin of those whose tales she would reveal! Eventually her tales evolved into grade school essays and high school newspaper assignments that inspired her writer’s soul.

Christina honed her story telling talents in her early career through her work as a newspaper feature writer and editor for the Ridgewood News. It was there that she was mentored by the renown sports columnist and author, Joe King, who taught her the value of always getting to the heart of the story.

While raising her family of two children, Christina became a feature writer for a series of national equine publications and launched a 15-year career as the Heart and Soul Op-ed columnist for the Western New York Newspaper,The Sun. Soon her stories were being featured in national anthologies and on the Buffalo NPR Station, WBFO. Eventually Christina became a regular commentator and reporter for WBFO and advanced to hosting her own talk radio show on a Buffalo AM station.

Christina’s first book, Chicken Wing Wisdom (CWW) was published in 2008 by Western New York Wares. It is a collection of stories about Western New York women, their sense of wisdom and the ways in which they share that wisdom with food. CWW became a regional best-seller and is now in its second printing.

In 1995, Christina moved into a hilltop farmhouse named Crown Hill,. Immediately she began transforming her 150-year old house into a home— a twenty year renovation project that brought with it a series of intriguing and haunting Crown Hill stories shared with her in a variety of ways and means. Over the last seven years, Christina has  labored in weaving those stories into the core of her second book, a historical novel s titled in honor of her home.

As Christina readies for Crown Hill’s publication, she continues to tell stories on her blog and in several new writing projects, including a one-woman play. Christina’s writing purpose will always be to tell the stories that touch reader’s hearts and souls and to create a legacy of which her children and grandchildren will be proud.
