The Secret Sand Circle is a psychological suspense novel focused on trauma, secrets, and buried truths—and the quietly haunting ways they connect a unconventional psychologist and five of her most memorable patients.

The book’s story unfolds across twenty-seven chapters defined by intertwined timelines of Now and Then.

Now: This timeline launches each chapter of the book. It occurs in the present day and is marked by an advancing timestamp which, in total, unfolds over one twenty-four-hour period. In that time, readers meet psychologist Dr. Jo Harkins, who is sequestered at a retreat center writing a book about five patients who have shaped her career. Yet beneath the calm of her author’s demeanor lingers a gnawing sense that something beyond writing is taking place—both around Jo and within her self.

Then: This timeline completes the first twenty-five chapters of the book and reveals the initial decade of Jo’s psychology practice. Readers witness the success of her unconventional counseling settings and cutting-edge therapies, including her signature secret sand circle. Throughout these sections, five patients emerge in individual storylines of memory, abuse, trauma, and the profound ways each one impacts Jo’s practice—and her self.

The Now and Then timelines unfold within seven sections divided by six haunting vignettes—Silence, Skeletons, Scabs, Scars, Shame, and Secrets—all of it blended into a mystery of memories, buried traumas, and deeply held secrets—-that ultimately can only be revealed within the security of the secret sand circle.

For every copy of The Secret Sand Circle sold in Buffalo/Western New York (WNY), $1 will be donated to The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) Buffalo/WNY to help support peer-to-peer counseling for mental health clinicians, caseworkers and first responders who care for our community in times of disasters, crime and trauma.
