The Secret Sand Circle is a psychological suspense novel focused on trauma, secrets, and buried truthsโand the quietly haunting ways they connect an unconventional psychologist with five of her most memorable patients.
The story unfolds across twenty-seven chapters defined by intertwined timelines of Now and Then.
The โNowโ timeline launches each chapter of the book and takes place in the present day. Each one is marked by an advancing timestamp that unfolds over a twenty-four-hour period. In that time, readers meet successful psychologist Jo Harkins, who is sequestered in a retreat center working on a book about five patients who have shaped her career. Yet beneath Joโs writerโs mindset lingers a gnawing sense that something beyond writing is taking placeโboth around and within her self.
The โThenโ timeline reveals details of the first decade of Joโs psychology practice. Readers witness the success of her unconventional counseling settings and cutting-edge therapies, including her signature secret sand circle. Throughout these sections, five patients emerge in individual storylines of memory, abuse, and traumaโalong with the profound ways they impact Joโs practice and her self.
These intertwined Now and Then chapters unfold in seven sections divided by six haunting vignettesโSilence, Skeletons, Scabs, Scars, Shame, and Secretsโall blending into a mystery of memories, buried traumas, and deeply held secrets that ultimately can be revealed in only one place: the secret sand circle.
